The January Captivating Customer is a public relations phenomenon that has been an integral part of the local community for a number of years. Tammy Reasoner is a native Cincinnatian who has lived in the Pleasant Ridge area for nearly seven years, and has lived on the Eastern side of Cincinnati her entire life, with the exception of a three-year residency in Columbus, Ohio, where she worked in politics as a legislative aide for the Ohio House of Representatives.
Tammy has been involved in state and local politics, private sector public relations, and has worked with a wide variety of non-profit organizations, both in promoting their efforts and finding strong partnerships. If you caught the local WKRC morning news a few Saturdays ago, you may have seen her most recent one that she is working on developing between BabysitEase and Learning Through Art, Inc. to bring Books Alive! for Kids into people's homes.
Along with being a great mother to her two children (Ben, 3 and Claire, 2), Tammy is also and independent public relations practitioner with over 12 years of public, private and non-profit public relations experience. Following the birth of her son, she left her full-time position as Communications Manager for the Freestore Foodbank. However, within six months, she was approached about promoting Learning Through Art's summer event series, The 'Hood is Bigger Than You Think Tour. Since then, her and her husband, Jeff, began Yardwig Communications, LLC and have more than doubled their business each year for the past three years. Tammy serves as the VP of Public Relations and Marketing and Jeff acts as President with a focus on computer networking.
Tammy works with a wide range of clients, including special events, non-profit fundraising campaigns, political and issues campaigns, business-to-consumer and business-to-business clients, entertainment destinations such as Mt. Adams and Potbelly Sandwich Works, and services such as Cincinnati BabysitEase.
She assists her clients in identifying their messaging to match their marketing goals. By working closely with them to determine their target markets, she develops a plan to accomplish getting that message out to key audiences. With her extensive experience in media relations, she has been consistently successful in placing news stories in print, television and radio in local, regional and national markets. Demonstrating the broad range of disciplines that public relations encompasses, she also develops writing projects that go from drafting letters to revamping company mission statements.
When asked what she is most passionate about in her career, Tammy remarked, "I am most passionate about bringing people in contact with other people, businesses and services to facilitate mutually beneficial relationships. It's exciting to watch clients connect with others capable of furthering their purpose while learning new ways to rethink the strategies they implement to reach people. Every day is different when you're working your passion!"
A great aspect of Tammy's business is her ability to work from home. She has been able to successfully accomplish this through maintaining balance in her life between work and home. Tammy shares this great advice about parents working from home. "The best advice I could give would be to avoid the temptation to try and have everything figured out before diving in -- if we try and do that, we never "do it!" Services like BabysitEase make it possible to "ease" into your new situation until you find a time management combination that feels right to you. Three years and two children later, I'm still "figuring it out". If only BabysitEase had been around when I was just getting started! When things start to feel stressful, I try and remind myself that my priorities as a Mom are the whole reason I'm working from home in the first place. I've also learned that sometimes when things feel out of balance, it's a reminder that I've lost sight of the priority, and I'm able to find a way to reconfigure the setup in a way that works better for me and my family. And honestly, I know now that the pendulum always swings back -- it's not always easy, but usually if you hang in there long enough, things eventually settle back into a workable rhythm!"
Tammy Reasoner is one exceptional Mom who is making an impact, with her family and children, with businesses and organizations, and with the community as a whole.
